Today, all 3rd graders were educated about being tobacco free. Our educators came from IU health and presented our students with lots of great information. We learned that tobacco use can make lungs turn black, our fingers turn yellow, and can cause lots of scary health problems.
Students also got to watch a video that helped them to become confident when presented with peer pressure to use tobacco. Students learned 3 steps to help them to NOT use tobacco. 1. Be confident in saying no! 2. Be prepared with what you'll say to your friend. 3. Change the subject to get other kids to talk or do something else.
They also got to see a pair of smoker's lungs compared to a non smoker's lungs. They were all very grossed out. :)
